At Circle Drive Dental, we know that having a healthy, attractive smile you can feel good about is important to all of our patients. Having straight teeth is a priority for many of our patients, especially the adult business professionals, teens, and young adults who visit our dentist office. A straight smile is a great confidence booster, but more than that, it keeps your teeth, gums, and bones healthy and strong.

When teeth are overcrowded or crooked, it can cause some serious issues, from misaligned bites (overbite, underbite, or crossbite) to more serious issues like gum disease and bone loss. Of course, not every case is this severe, and usually, a little crookedness is nothing to worry about.

Fortunately, Invisalign makes correcting and perfecting any smile a snap!

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign system is actually a very simple process, and easily wins the battle of Invisalign vs. braces. Instead of the traditional clunky, uncomfortable metal braces that can be painful and restrict what foods you’re able to eat, Invisalign trays are light, easy to remove, and virtually unnoticeable. Not only do others not know you’re wearing them, but you might even forget yourself!

Your personal Invisalign dentist will take a mold of your teeth before the process starts to get a good feel for the current state of your teeth. Then your mold is sent off to Invisalign, and within a few weeks, you’ll receive the first of your Invisalign trays! You simply fit the aligners to your teeth, snap them in, and you’re good to go!

Gradually, each tray will take a different shape to gently realign your teeth and your bite into their ideal spaces.

How long does Invisalign take?

The length of the Invisalign process is different for each individual patient, depending on their specific needs. On average, the typical length of an Invisalign treatment is approximately twelve months, but each case is unique and may need more or fewer weeks to achieve that perfect smile.

Each individual tray is worn for about two weeks at a time. During the first week, your teeth are shifting into their new positions, so you might experience a little discomfort. Then, during the second week, your teeth are settling down and getting nice and cozy in their new places. This allows your mouth to heal between trays instead of moving all at once.

A major benefit of choosing Invisalign over Smile Direct or other similar mail-order teeth straightening treatments is your direct access to your Invisalign dentist. With monthly delivery trays, you don’t get the expertise of a dentist who can answer your questions, address your concerns, and make sure everything’s fitting correctly and moving properly.

While the convenience of getting your aligners directly to your mailbox may seem like a huge perk, it really isn’t that different from how Invisalign works. Our dentists will get you started on your first few Invisalign trays, then send you home with a small portion of your supply to change on your own. We may ask you to come in for a visit to check up on you every now and then, but on the whole, your Invisalign journey is entirely your own!
