Veneers Or Braces: Which Choice Is Best For You?

Braces and dental veneers are both outstanding choices for people desiring straighter teeth and a great smile. However, there are some notable differences between the two that every Circle Drive Dental patient should weigh before making a decision.

Braces

Braces are ideal for people with:

  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Tooth crowding
  • Gaps between teeth

There are varying degrees of underbite, crossbite, and overbite problems. The more severe the issue, the more likely it is that we’ll recommend braces instead of veneers. Braces are also effective in reducing gaps between teeth, as well as repositioning teeth in order to alleviate crowding.

Braces can be permanently affixed to the teeth for a certain amount of time, or supplied to a patient in a “removable” form. However, even removable braces must be worn for at least 20 hours per day. The permanency associated with braces is one of the biggest drawbacks to this oral solution, along with the sometimes complex cleaning methods required to keep one’s braces and mouth bacteria-free.

In terms of aesthetics, braces have come a long way. The stigma associated with wearing braces isn’t what it used to be - nowadays, patients at our local dental office can opt for clear braces and colored braces, in addition to the traditional metallic look. Another option that’s become incredibly popular over the last two decades is Invisalign, which takes the form of removable, virtually invisible trays that offer many of the same benefits as braces.

Veneers

Veneers are an attractive option for people seeking a solution for:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Minor gap issues
  • A brighter, bolder smile

Whereas braces are preferred for serious overbites and misalignments, veneers are more appropriate for patients whose primary need is cosmetic enhancement. Unlike braces, which represent a more complex installation, maintenance, and removal process, veneers can be applied in just two or three appointments and will deliver results within a much shorter time frame. Veneers can give people with tooth discoloration or crooked teeth a natural, beautiful smile, and they can also mask any mild gaps between teeth.

Other upsides to veneers include relatively pain-free installation, along with in absence of the sometimes-uncomfortable tightening procedure associated with braces. The veneers designed by our dentist serving Rochester are also exceptionally durable and resistant, lasting for years while incurring minimal wear and tear. Also, veneers come with far fewer food restrictions compared to braces.

Consult an Experienced Dentist

When deciding between veneers or braces, the first step is to visit Circle Drive Dental for an examination. This initial diagnosis may offer clear confirmation that one option is better than the other. For example, if your bite is significantly misaligned, or the gaps in your teeth are too large for veneers to fix, then braces are the clear choice.

On the flipside, if your teeth feature minor crookedness and some discoloration, we can quickly rectify these setbacks with veneers and deliver a winning smile in no time at all.

The choice between braces and veneers isn’t always clear-cut, which is why we suggest making an appointment with our nearby dentist today. Our experienced professionals will examine your mouth and create a treatment plan that meets your unique needs.
